Domaine Jean Bousquet

The Bousquet Family, who hail from the southern French city of Carcassonne, have a long history and prestigious wine making tradition. In the constant struggle to produce wines of a superior quality, Mr. Jean Bousquet was determined to find the best place to continue the family’s decades long tradition. In 1990 Mr. Bousquet first arrived in Mendoza to investigate the vineyards and wineries. Upon discovering the unique characteristics of the region, its soil, it’s high altitude, it’s terroir, Mr. Bousquet was convinced he had found the ideal location for his winery.

In 1998, after buying 500 acres , he moved from France to the foothills of The Andes. The vineyard is located in Tupungato, Uco Valley, Mendoza at an altitude of 4,000 feet above the sea level, making it one of the higher altitude vineyards of Mendoza and the world. The vineyards are blessed with cool nights and a near constant cool breeze, idyllic conditions for ripe grapes and excellent wines.

The main objective of Domaine Bousquet is to combine the European elegance in winemaking style with the prefect, cool climate and soils of the Uco Valley in Argentina.
Due to the climate and altitude, the vineyard takes a long time for the grapes to ripen. That is one of secrets to this vineyard.

The philosophy of Domaine Bousquet is to focus on preserving the grape’s high quality characteristics, which is why gentle handling of the fruit is the guiding principle of the winery.
When the grapes are picked, they are placed into small trays and delivered carefully to the winery. There they are hand-sorted before going to the destemmer. After a gentle destemming, the fruit is then sent to tanks for maceration and then fermentation for approximately 30 days. The fermentation is carried out with selected yeast at a controlled temperature.
